Travel Insurance – Many Different Types
When first entertaining the idea of purchasing
travel insurance,
you would think that that's all there is to it, that your only choice is either being covered
while traveling or not. In actuality, there are several different forms of insurance you can
obtain while traveling, whether you are a general or business traveler, or require extra medical
insurance coverage while traveling.
Package policies are the
traveling insurance
policies that are used most often. These are insurance packages that are available on a trip by
trip basis when you travel. These insurance policies offer coverage for trip cancellation, baggage
contents and baggage delay, medical, emergency evacuation, twenty-four hour traveler assistance,
travel delay, and accidental death coverage. There are sometimes options to also include coverage
on rental cars and extra coverage for accidental death and emergency evacuation.
Business travelers have special insurance policies available to them. These can either be
purchased by individual business travelers or companies who have many employees who travel with
them. These policies can either provide insurance coverage on a single trip basis or for general
travel throughout the year. The insurance policies for business travelers include coverage for
trip cancellation, concierge services, and identity theft protection. Additional coverage is
sometimes provided for business travelers with baggage concerns and business items, including
trade show items, cell phones, laptops, etc.
There are several different medical insurance options that are available to travelers. There are
basic travel medical insurance policies that cover anything during a travel period of up to a
year. There are similar policies to this that cover multiple trips within a year. A medical
evacuation policy insures people that may become seriously ill while traveling and need to be
removed to a hospital or care facility. Lastly, there is a policy that covers those traveling
abroad that expect to be gone for a period of up to six months.
